Reading List: Job Losses, Bloomberg’s Aide, and Buying Votes
* The New York Times reports that Bloomberg has had some trouble with job losses in the City — not surprising since the unemployment rate is over 10 percent. Here’s the director of the Center for an Urban Future: “New York used to be a place that really nurtured a middle class. There’s compelling evidence that we have done worse than other cities.” [Thanks Queens Crap]
* Bloomberg says he’s looking into allegations that one of his campaign aides, Maura Keaney, violated city laws when she worked on legislation affecting labor unions while simultaneously asking them for campaign contributions, reports the City Room.
* Alan Singer, Social studies educator at Hofstra University, writes a biting open letter to “Mayor Moneybags” in The Huffington Post asking how much Bloomberg would pay him for his vote. $10,000?
* Gotham Schools reports that there is no improvement on the state’s national math exams.
* Wayne Barrett writes about Bloomberg choosing Joe Bruno during last night’s debate. He also gives Bloomberg a surprising scorecard.
* Jarrett Murphy writes about all the foreclosures in the City, and how it relates to what Bloomberg and Thompson said last night.
