Giuliani Says Vote for Bloomberg Or NYC Will Become Detroit
Via The Daily News:
Former mayor Rudy Giuliani warned Sunday that crime rates could soar to 1990s levels and the city could again be a victim of terrorism if Mayor Bloomberg doesn’t win reelection.
Giuliani’s dire predictions came during a tag-team campaign swing - the first time Bloomberg has tapped the one-time GOP star for help on the stump this election season.
“This city could very easily be taken back in a very different direction,” Giuliani told a crowd of ultra-Orthodox Jews at a breakfast sponsored by Brooklyn’s Borough Park Jewish Community Council. “It could very easily be taken back to the way it was with the wrong political leadership. Politics is important. It’s important toour safety. It’s important to our security.”
Bloomberg said that New York could become another Detroit.
“We all know that cities have gone through great boom times and then turned around and collapsed. Take a look at Detroit,” he said. “It went from a great city with lots of good-paying jobs to a city that’s basically holding on for dear life. All of our gains are always in danger of being turned around.”
The warnings, a little more than two weeks before Bloomberg faces Democrat William Thompson in the Nov. 3 election, came as Bloomberg supporters say they’re increasingly worried that fatigue from the long campaign will decrease voter turnout. A low turnout could hurt Bloomberg because loyal Democrats and people angered over the way Bloomberg overturned term limits may be more motivated to vote. The supporters also fear Bloomberg backers may assume he’ll coast to easy victory and stay home.
Giuliani, though unpopular in many parts of the city, was greeted like a returning hero in Borough Park. He spoke to the neighborhood’s deepest fears at an event held in part to honor Holocaust survivors. “I think, you know, because of the presence of the Holocaust survivors and so many other things, how important this is, so please vote for a mayor that’s been there for you,” Giuliani said.
Giuliani also appeared with Bloomberg at a Columbus Day parade in the Republican stronghold of Howard Beach, Queens, but cold, rainy weather kept most spectators away.
Bloomberg dropped his Republican registration in 2007, but he is running on the GOP line.
Thompson said he wasn’t surprised to see the two men campaigning together. “I guess Mayor Bloomberg needs the help,” Thompson said. His spokeswoman Anne Fenton called the dire warnings “a tired Republican campaign tactic” to “scare people into voting by threatening their personal safety.”

It just makes you cringe and say “never again” when you hear the word Guiliani. Mike Bloomberg’s campaign is Godzilla-esque in the worst ways possible. As if Mike the little emperor can’t push the limits any further — from term limits to over the top spending and alienating advertising he gets Maggie Haberman to do a hatch job on his behalf in The New York Post. Even Wayne Barrett’s new piece has a friend of mine calling Barrett a republican and Bloombergian. I really feel like I am living in a remake of “Being There” but the main character is an above average intelligent guy named Mike Bloomberg and it is a horror movie, not a comedy.

When are New Yorkers going to realize that Guilliani was the best thing that ever happened to this city. Do you remember what NYC was like before him? Take a walk through the lower east side which is now inhabitable to non-heroin addicts.
Crime rights are lower now than ever. After Guilliani and Bloomberg got hard on crime.
Bloomberg was the second best thing. The man uses his own money to be the Mayor. He saved our school. There are no kick backs. Why would Bloomberg be involved in pay-to-play schemes? He doesn’t need the money. You guys sound like loons.
“but the main character is an above average intelligent guy named Mike Bloomberg and it is a horror movie, not a comedy.” — On another note, that makes no sense.
